Prayer is the stilling of the heart and mind
Willing God to come into the situation
Finding together a worthwhile answer.

“A moment of prayer …when I realise I’ve stepped off my own resources, and without God’s help I’m
lost.” Tom Wright
Prayer is the silencing of fear and anxiety
Handing over to the supreme authority of God so overcoming adversity,
Knowing He does all things well.

“Prayer …takes the tangled ball of wool and gently untangles it, without snapping it or cutting it.”
Tom Wright
Prayer is the building up of hope realistically,
Depending and trusting upon God entirely,
Discovering the peace which comes from the Trinity.

“Prayer is …God being God in me being me.” Tom Wright

“I pray because … God always intended to bring humans in on the act.” Tom Wright

I pray because when I do, I access the holiness of the Lord Jesus and all manner of worthy and
wonderful things happen. Heavenly Father, how I thank and praise You for the gift of Your Son
who calls us to share in His own Spirit of holiness. “For from Him and through Him and
Romans 11 v 36 to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever!”
Your Son, Father, is the gift of our holiness according to the victory of the †. We praise and
thank You. “Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God,” for all who seek that which
1 Corinthians 1 v 24
is worthy and wonderful. “By wisdom a house is built, by discernment the foundation is
Proverbs 24 v 3, 4 laid; by knowledge its storerooms filled with riches of every kind, rare and desirable.”

How much You do for us! How much prayer can and will accomplish. “Thanks be to God! He 1 Corinthians 15
v 57 gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ,” in our new identity as a people, His
own family, having been made holy. “…in view of God’s mercy … offer your bodies as
Romans 12 v 1 living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship.”

Father, may Your spirit always enable us in prayer to put right what has gone wrong. I pray
because this is how You reveal Yourself to us, building up our faith and thereby enabling us to live
with love! “And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is
1 Corinthians 13 v 13 love.”

I pray because in the asking is Your answering. You draw us ever closer to You in the Lord
Jesus. He is our holiness. “Living with Him has no bitterness and His companionship no
Wisdom 8 v 16 weariness.” “Blessed is the (wo)man who reverences the LORD, who delights greatly in Psalm 112 v 1
His commandments.”

I pray because I need the Spirit’s strengthening, His guidance, His support and teaching. “Having
meditated on all this, and having come to the conclusion that immortality resides in kinship with
wisdom, noble contentment in her friendship, inexhaustible
