Vivid Colours
Sue O'Donnell

Why is September into October
So yellow, so mellow?
Well that is apart from a colour distinctive, on show
Which is boldly striking, a companion to yellow.
Bold is the orange in the autumn garden,
Peach to apricot to spicy orange,
Like a pumpkin or pot of tangy marmalade.
Notable in helenium, crocosmia and rudbekia,
The nectar rich autumn daisy, not dainty but pretty.
October sees a warm explosion of orange,
Like an immense fireball intent on being noticed.

As if the garden must now rival
The autumn tints of trees,
Blazing forth in beaten copper to tan.
The flowers which began back in earlier months,
Will go out with a burning blaze, a hint of glory.
Amaze at autumn’s story.
It is unrivalled for the splendour of warmth
Especially in the vivid colour of sunburnt orange.

Lord, many are the flowers of autumn still blooming in their vivid colours. Thank You for this year’s final burst of
warmth before winter descends. Amen.
