This Time
Sue O'Donnell

“Whoever is wise will observe these things, and they will understand the loving kindness of the LORD.”
Psalm 107 V 43
Why are we silenced?
When are we silenced?
Where are we silenced?
How necessary is this silence?
Certainly it is needed for reverence.
What is the importance of reverence?
Why are we reverent?
When are we reverent?
Where are we reverent?
Mostly in our heart,
Although the mind of course, is implicated.
For this we need to engage both faculties of mind and heart,
Wisely, prayerfull

“Whoever is wise will observe these things, and they will understand the loving kindness of the LORD.”
Psalm 107 V 43
Why are we silenced?
When are we silenced?
Where are we silenced?
How necessary is this silence?
Certainly it is needed for reverence.
What is the importance of reverence?
Why are we reverent?
When are we reverent?
Where are we reverent?
Mostly in our heart,
Although the mind of course, is implicated.
For this we need to engage both faculties of mind and heart,
Wisely, prayerfully, circumspectly.
We need to concentrate,
To properly dedicate to God in prayer.
“Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy, and
gathered out of the lands...” Psalm 107 v 2, 3
We have to engage mind and heart
That God, by His Spirit, in Jesus,
Will choose to use this time wisely.
Thus this time is made fine for us.
The Spirit of Jesus comes to us
At this time of our need.
The Spirit helps us to plead, to intercede,
In the name of Jesus,
Not to keep silence about this.
We must ask of God’s goodness
To spring to our aid.
Thus the endeavouring Spirit achieves
To decrease our distress
To get us out of the mess of sin.
What rich recompense there is in this.
“The righteous see it and rejoice, and all iniquity stops its mouth.” Psalm 107 v 42
Come, come, O Spirit of deliverance, at least help us with this subject matter, for we need to
pray in all urgency. May we not be reticent in any way, but call out to our Father through
Jesus.
Spirit of mercy, please impose the correct understanding of forgiveness upon us, or else we
wander away from sense and find ourselves desolate.
It is awful not to be able to answer the questions as to how we are supposed to conduct
ourselves. Come, O Spirit of Jesus, talk to us about this that we get life in proper balance.
Let us see, how to pray is to be delivered from distress and be led a different way forwards in

our fresh understanding of how Jesus lives.
So how do we learn about this? Surely we need time together in silence. Then You will speak to
us, wise teaching Spirit of Jesus.
Most reverent Spirit, please continue to work with us guarding, guiding, inspiring us to respond
to God in Jesus, as best we can.
“Oh, that (wo)men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness and for His
Psalm 107 v 8 wonderful works to the children of men.” Thank You that we can count upon this.
Come, Spirit of counsel. May we never despise Your teaching, speaking upon the wisdom of
Jesus, the One to bring us out of the shadow of darkness and the shadow of death.
May we not be foolish about this, no longer inflict damage upon ourselves because of our
transgressions. Here is one time we must certainly speak out.
Come, Spirit of our remorse, to ease our afflictions as You lead us towards vitally necessary
repentance, looking to God’s mercy.
If our soul allows all manner of good, the blessed nourishment of sacred Scripture You offer us,
so as to illuminate Jesus and His gospel message, then we draw perilously near to the gates of
death, unnecessarily.
v 20 “He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.” What a
very, very fine divine intervention, made possible in Jesus, as we ask for this.
Spirit of prayer, please shape our heart, mind, will, conscience, words, for this to happen as our
deliverance. Then let us not be silenced about this.
Spirit of desire, inhabit both our perceived and as yet unperceived wish to live within the will of
God, entirely subservient to Jesus.
How can we do this if we are to remain silent? By looking to and listening to Him as the Word
of life, of true love, our deepest spiritual healing.
Unworthy that we are, Spirit of confidence, enable us please, to pray in this expectant way, for
Matthew 8 v 8 it is so important: “ ‘Lord, I am not worthy...but only speak a word...’” for we believe in Your
healing power.
Please help us to make sense about this, sense as to all that actually matters for us to get right.
Should there on any particular occasion be silence or not?
Show us how the Spirit of reverence enables this to happen, that we can offer the sacrifices of
thanksgiving and declare God’s work with rejoicing.
O Holy Spirit of rejoicing, thank You for enabling this to happen as we learn the significance of
silence, pursuing this with a new found assurance, as and when, but only as and when
necessary.
Thank You, thank You, thank You once again heavenly Father, that all of this is made possible
for us as we look to Jesus. Amen.
