The Iris
Sue O'Donnell

Iris blue boasts a particular lavender hue.
Gentle yet striking, vividly decorating
The May and June gardens
By a carefully woven tapestry set amidst verdant green.
Not nature’s haphazard beauty here,
But the dedicated skill of the gardener
Setting out to carefully structure focal points.
For such an endeavour the iris scores highly,
Being tall, elegant, sinewy, a real beauty.
Not always in lilac blue, the iris can be
Less frequently, lemony yellow, inky blue, navy blue,
Or may be with a glow of

But always the iris is a striking contrast with the green tranquillity,
Which paints the spring garden so vividly.
Yes, the iris is lovely, stately, commanding attention,
And she carries the annual responsibility
Of the seamless transition between spring and summer.
Creation’s story is ever ongoing, progressing.
The iris plays her part in this most dramatically.
Life is made more beautiful due to the iris.

Lord, the beauty of the iris is particularly eye catching in its elegance. Thank You for moving time forwards with
there being always something to admire. Your continuous creativity is truly a marvel. Amen.
