“The earth is the LORD’s, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein.” Psalm 24 v 1

The winter sun hung, slung so low in the sky
that heightened became my wonder.
A fireball glow, show of diffused gold,
as of old the mystery of God’s power remained.
Was not sheer beauty simply framed
that our duty is to amaze, give wondrous praise?
Can we not see the glory that will be
when we perceive God’s hand at work?
Heaven reaching down to earth,
a blaze of light, the setting sun shaped perfectly, radiantly
a most glorious sight alight on the horizon.
How this on such a day looked so immense larger than usual,
I could not say, but could see the entire sky
surrounding shot through with far radiating rays.
As if the liquid gold would suffuse the day to the end,
sparkling, shining far and wide, the love God does send will not hide.
The widest horizon spectacularly shone brightly lit by the glory of God.
Not mellow this deepest yellow of the setting amber sun,
but more deepest orange through to blushing pink becoming richest red,
powerful, prominent, dominant over the winter scene,
insistently demanding I look and see.

“You, O LORD, are a shield for me, my glory and the One who lifts up my head.” Psalm 3 v 3

Aglow with such warmth the sight made me think
of love and life’s force, the love light of course so recently been
set amongst us in a cold, raw, poor stable scene.
Did the Christ child awaking on Christmas morn
know then that the glory of God’s power
was to be our hope in Him to begin now
a new and better future for all of mankind?
Did the Magi who travelled to find an infant King
bring that hope into realisation seeing love lying in a manger?
God no longer a stranger to us, but a revelation
by the mystery of God come to earth, the manifestation of love given birth,
Given birth to all with the humility to choose to look and see God’s glory.
And so the setting sun ablaze over the expanse of heaven
is too, surely given to help us amaze at the power of God?
Light radiantly shining banishing the encroaching darkness.
A light to show God’s presence to us in the light of His love
