Listening, Learning
Sue O'Donnell

“ ‘Now a word was secretly brought to me, and my ear received a whisper of it. In disquieting thoughts from the
visions of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones
shake. Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair on my body stood up. It stood still, but I could not discern its

Silence, listening, learning,
Especially from the Spirit of Jesus,
This helps shape our obedience.
In such obedience lies reverence.
We must not rail against You,
When disappointed by Your decisions,
As maybe temporarily there are no answers, Father.
Let this be an opportunity to develop
More fully both trust and dependency.
Listening in the ascendancy,
Prayer becomes an invaluable tool
For our holy communication.
Silence can speak volumes,
Providing time to digest what is shown us.
As Jesus went to lonely places to pray,
How vital this must be for us.
Father, draw us into the stillness,
That the silence without, about us,
May help to upbuild our friendship.
Worship is to be offered
Especially in any opportunity You find,
You make to take us forward in love.
Let the peace of Christ Jesus,
Radiate about us,
Stilling racing thoughts, confusion, delusion.
Any unquietness of feelings should be overcome in Jesus.
Let us know of Your presence
In all the blessings of calm silence.
