Some greens are not,
They carry proudly,
Another colour shot.
For these leafy lovelies
Can be toned down
Almost to brown,
Or lifted by light
With streaks of white.
So what does this depend upon?
Is it the light and shade
The Creator has brilliantly made
To stream, beam, connect and reflect?
Or is it the colour itself
God being a Master Painter?
Certainly there is a plenty
Of visual variety in green:
Ferns, grasses, annuals, evergreens.
It would seem that foliage
In all its leafy loveliness
Will
Some greens are not,
They carry proudly,
Another colour shot.
For these leafy lovelies
Can be toned down
Almost to brown,
Or lifted by light
With streaks of white.
So what does this depend upon?
Is it the light and shade
The Creator has brilliantly made
To stream, beam, connect and reflect?
Or is it the colour itself
God being a Master Painter?
Certainly there is a plenty
Of visual variety in green:
Ferns, grasses, annuals, evergreens.
It would seem that foliage
In all its leafy loveliness
Will always offer plenty of scope.
Surely hope plays a part in this,
As if nothing will go amiss
For green is the colour of newness,
Of freshness, always welcome.
Inviting us to be as we see
Luscious green, a people of hope,
Realising God’s scope is endless
Whether painting nature around us,
Or looking for us to be
A part of His family.
And if the latter
We will discover just as much
Variety as is found in green
In all its sheen of leafy loveliness.
Lord, where would Creation’s Story be without the green of leafy loveliness? I do not want to imagine! Amen.
