August greenery.
Vitality flourishing fully,
Strappy, flappy,
Wafty, ferny,
Willowy, lacy.
Oh so happy
To reach potential,
It would seem!
August, a month
Of summery fullness.
Thus God does set out to bless us,
And succeeds in this.
For He knows we need
A sunny world
Made prettily uplifting
By August greenery,
In all its delicate freshness.
It seems
Fronds, ferns in such fullness
Yearn to please,
Or maybe simply to tease!
For what is life without comedy?
See how jungle like
August greenery
Hides its paths.
Risen anew to tantalise us.
For the gardener
Trying to weed
Any border,
Achieve some order,
This is a seeming impossibility
Amidst August greenery.
Perhaps this month
Is meant
For us to
Simply be content,
Relaxing, enjoying the garden,
Enjoying the fruits of earlier labour.
By looking and admiring,
Aspiring to know
How to grow
Effectively, maybe more so
Next time.
Ask, ‘Did I plant efficiently’?

Is the right plant
In the right place?
Maybe, maybe not?
What a lot I have to learn,
I discover here.
But for now,
How we do not
Miss the opportunity
Of the brief last holiday,
Simply stop!
Stop and enjoy fully
Every lovely leaf
Of August greenery.
Fleshy, flashy,
Spiky, frilly,
Very frothy.
Certainly there is
Plenty in ample abundance,
Spilling out and about
Truly jungle like.
Was not a jungle
Ever meant to be
A place of discovery?

Lord, summer will soon be all too quickly passing. Let us then, make the most of discovery amidst the August
greenery so richly, abundantly about us. Amen.
