“Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good.” Psalm 34 v 8
“Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good.” Psalm 34 v 8
Lord, when we try to describe colour,
Why does coffee sound better than mud?
Or chocolate rather than simply brown,
Or maybe raspberry rather than pink?
And the title cream is so much better than beige,
So richly indulgent as to be positively dreamy.
Or think of peach, plum and cherry too, all so very, very tasty.
Not to mention orange, lemon, strawberry and lime,
Colours created to be so fine in real appeal.
Perhaps it is all about sensory perception,
You making our life’s awareness dependent
Not only on thinking and seeing, but feeling.
And what about colours with overtone of fragrance
Like lilac, rose and violet?
I suppose the detail was all in the Master Plan,
A plan for creation You began so long ago.
Surely to let us know You are not only real
But actually closely involved with us,
Wanting, designing to attract and entice our recognition.
Help us please to increase our awareness of You
And all You so colourfully do to speak to us.
Imagine a colourless, flavourless life!
Surely colour is a bright light in life to nourish and feed us?
Oh, You are so very, very good to us!
“Be Thou a light into my eyes, music to my ears, sweetness to my taste, and full contentment to my
heart.” John Cosin
Lord, colour is beautiful, thank You. And there is added pleasure in the sensation of tasting or smelling and
enjoying. How very richly You provide for us! What a wide variety of shades, flavours and scents. Help me
savour them all! Amen.
