“O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth.” Psalm 8 v 1
“O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth.” Psalm 8 v 1
Surprise and wonder thread their joyful way
Through each day in amazement,
If we do but stop still sufficiently to see,
And be decidedly, quietly reflective about how God works.
“O Lord my God, many and many a time You have done great miracles for us and we are ever
in Your thoughts. Who else can do such glorious things? No one else can be compared with
You. There isn’t time to tell of all Your wonderful deeds.” Psalm 40 v 5
How often does the day bring you something good,
Pleasant, helpful, cheerful, but entirely unexpected?
A snatch of meaningful, memory stirring melody;
A whiff of scent or aroma to notice and savour;
The gentle touch of a friend’s loving companionship;
Wise talk spoken to help and support you;
A glimpse of nature breathtaking in beauty;
An awesome sunrise or sundown setting the sky blazing on fire.
The miracle of a new born baby safely arrived.
Anticipation and excitement are fine feelings.
But how much more powerful can be our reactions
When we see the totally unexpected,
And are simply overwhelmed by God at work.
His miracles are multiplied and magnified
If we look carefully about in recognition.
Who arranges the year by year physical growth of children;
Graces the elderly with words of wisdom;
Paints the array of autumn in spectacular colours;
Teaches the flowers when to open and close;
Plans the rotation of crops to be richly harvested in season;
Provides shelter and warmth essential to life;
Finally calls us to move on to our heavenly home?
O Lord, our God, You are incredible!
Mighty in majesty and power, we praise You.
Splendid in beauty and abundance, we honour You.
Generous in provision and protection, we thank You.
“The heavens are Thine, the earth also is Thine; as for the world and the fullness thereof, Thou
hast founded them.” Psalm 89 v 11
“Before the mountains were born, before the earth and the world came to birth, from eternity to
eternity, You are God.” * and we reverence You Father of all marvellous miracles. Thank
You that You long to share everything that is good with us and delight in surprising and
pleasing us. May we respond to all You show us, by standing in humble awe of Your
magnificence and acknowledging Your glory with heartfelt gratitude. Amen.
