Come Closer
Sue O'Donnell

Certain scenes seem to say:
‘Come closer. Look at me.
Do not hurry away.
Admire my colour
Painted specially.
Notice the detail
Woven in intricacy.
Enjoy the profusion.
No illusion, God is generous.
Wonder at the design
Fine moment of expression’.
Stop then, be still
Until you see
Something not formerly noticed.
You will be glad,
Made happy by this.
For God gifts you
Through nature’s beauty.
Understand the command
To grow, be on show,
And you will know something,
Of the way God works.
His dictate

His dictates are shaped
Carefully, wisely, beneficially,
Whether working in the realm of nature
Or with us.
Feel His presence
Around us in the beauty.
A beauty which seems to say
‘Stop. Be still for a moment’.
Then when you stop,
Take that moment to pray.
For to learn of God’s mercy is vital.
Many, many are the ways
In which God chooses to approach us.
