We prepare for Christmas.
To do so correctly, pleasingly,
We need to be filled by the Spirit of generosity.
The Lord God has prospered us,
That we in our turn, can benefit others.
Whether it is the treasure of finance,
Skills, talents or opportunity given us .
All are merits of turning to the Lord Jesus,
And adhering to the Spirit of love,
Kindness and generosity are hallmarks of Christianity.
“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness,
self-control.” Galatians 5 v 22, 23
We die to self so as to make room for Jesus,
His love shaped as deference, as reverence.
God helps in time of need, through us.
We are His instruments, followers of Christ Jesus,
He who overflows with the Spirit of love.
As we prepare for Christmas,
We have to make ready by sharing the love of Jesus.
There is no better way to do this than
By remaining open to the Holy Spirit of charity.
“(S)he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.” 1 Corinthian 6 v 17
“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from
God, and you are not your own?” 1 Corinthians 6 v 19
Lord Jesus, Lord of all holiness, we must make ready spiritually for Your arrival amongst us at
Christmas. I ask for Your Spirit to overpower us, to take control so as to make us really ready in
heart, mind, will and conscience.
Let self drive, self desire, self ambition nor possession any longer drive us, no works of the flesh
control us. I am sorry for any times of self-centredness, forgetful of the rights, needs and wants
of others.
I ask forgiveness for all times of self-pleasing and want to move forwards to become more like
You, Lord. Your love shown by goodness in action of self-giving.
You were gentle in Your dealings with everybody. May I become more considerate, patient and
tolerant. You were always approachable and affable. I ask to be good humoured.
You always acted with everybody else’s welfare in mind. May Your Spirit help me to be sensitive,
thoughtful and always of good intention, any abrasive qualities done away with.
Your love, an outpouring of our Father’s mercy, so graces us, we by the power of Your Spirit,
must be enabled to offer grace to help others in their time of need. May this be our aim for
Advent.
Roman 8 v 5 “Those who live according to the Spirit” set their mind on all that is virtuous, “The things of
the Spirit.” Lord Jesus, please help all of us in this way, by sending Your Spirit to us daily.
“Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one
Romans 14 V 19 may edify another.” Then the time of Advent will have been well spent, thank You. Amen.
