Furrowed, scored, in pattern of straight lines,
Set spectacularly against clear bright blue autumn skies,
Suddenly back lit by the low slanting sun casting shadows.
Acers must surely be
The brightest stars of autumn for many?
What a stunning aspect
Is ours to see and delight in,
As a carpet of colour unrolls in richness
Beneath bare branches denuded as the leaves fall.
An autumn blaze cuts a trail,
Bright sale of all the warmest shades.
Acers’ autumn foliage,
Tactile as well as visual,
Some boasting a soft, velvety texture,
Others with a silky sheen, like the plumage of an exotic bird,
Insist on being grown for autumn colour.
Although beautiful in spring and summer too,
The acers’ autumn foliage, eye catching, alluring
In all its demanding, wanting to be noticed,
Acers always hold the upper hand.
Being most spectacular, utterly breathtaking, wonder making,
Being inspiring, jaw dropping and fortunately long lasting.
Yes, the acer in autumn foliage
Rival, outclass any other tree or shrub.
Conspicuous, deciduous, marvellous,
Liking a sunny, balmy spot.
What a lot acers’ autumn foliage has to offer
In its spreading, cheerful, brightest habit.
Set in tub or pot, specimen container, or border,
Aglow in the softer mellow light of autumn.
What a truly uplifting, heart warming sight!
