What fills my memory currently
Making me feel supremely happy?
The floral colour of my many
Lovingly planted and tended,
Lots and lots of summer pots!
Started expectantly when planted
In the June of early summer,
Gradually the pots became fuller,
Into July when the growth
Spurted on upwards, really growing higher.
Until come August, when
You could hardly spy
A patio space, place without colour.
Oh the joy of seeing
Plants growing to their potential,
Telling their own story of summer glory.
When the weather grows cooler,
The days shorter, darker in November,
How grateful I will be
For God’s gift of memory,
Re-imagining the patio colour.
Not quite a glimpse
Of heaven’s beauty.
But certainly an array
A display sufficiently bright
To make me feel happy.
I sense God the Creator
In any garden feature
Which adds beauty to life.
Thank You for this and photography,
The images portrayed shaping my memory.
Lord, Creator Father, I thank You for the joy felt in the summer colour, its memory and photographic evidence.
Your love is always fulfilling for us.
Lord, I have just remembered a passage read two days ago stating: “Say you will never forget these good and happy hours – the gay September garden with the sunshine and the flowers, say you will remember when the gold has turned to grey. Let us keep unto the end this lovely, lovely day.” (“Thoughts for Every Day” Patience Strong)
Well, this is how I feel about my summer garden, full of happy hours, the story of summer being one of cheerful colour. This is now actually fading, but this too is a cause for though, the realisation that Your love never fades nor dies. For all that You are and all that You lovingly do, I praise and thank You. Amen.
