The colour, bright picture, flowers offer,
The display opening in May with vigour,
Following on in an abundance in June,
With July and August a full bloom later,
Surely this is optimum opportunity
To see the hand of God at work?
Sit then for a moment or two
Let appreciation run heart and mind through.
To sit beneath a rose arbour
Is to harbour happiness amidst fragrance.
Amaze at the profligacy,
Not merely a bloom, or two, or three,
No, there is a rich plenty,
Indeed, many, many, very many!
Or if really warm the weather,
Linger by a peaceful pool,
To fill your thoughts happily.
For who does not appreciate tranquillity?
A herbaceous mixed border now flowers profusely,
Coloured charm all about us prettily.
You could take refuge in a conservatory,
Reminiscent of Victorian and Edwardian elegance.
Boughs bending, shading, we thrive when feeling protected.
You may admire the structure of topiary,
Cut, pruned, crimped into shape meticulously.
Lavender is gently painted lilac and perfumed,
Adding well to the atmosphere quietly.
Whilst to relax in a summer house or beneath a sun umbrella,
What a lovely spot you have got!
It seems the summer does not wish us to stay indoors,
But, forgetting the chores, to come into the garden,
Delighting to linger longer than you thought you could,
Or maybe even should! But then again
You will need time to admire the climbing clematis,
Or to fully enjoy the full floral abundance surrounding us.
And when going back indoors, again pause,
Not in too much of a rush to labour,
Find the favourite comfort of an armchair
Where it is good to remember silence is golden.
What did this time out of doors do for you?
Think this through reflectively, carefully,
Then offer prayerfully all praise for any happiness.
“In everything give thanks for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5 v 18)
Lord, we need to be aware of this request, making time, space and place to pray. May the Spirit of faith be
our guidance and inspiration day by day, as we seek the friendship of the Lord Jesus, in whom we worship.
Amen.
