LOVE (GOD IS LOVE)

Sue O’Donnell. 11.08.20

“God is love.” (1 John 4 v 16)

A short sentence of three words,

But words that carry significant, life changing meaning.

How do we find this meaning?

By praying and asking.

The task is easy,

But the result will require an ongoing response from us.

Love given is only made real to appeal

When this love is received, believed in.

To experience the love of our Father,

We need to grow to know another,

A Person like Him in nature, stature and personality.

We can do this too, in praying,

In asking to meet with the Son of God,

He whom we call Christ Jesus.

Jesus will come to us then, to manifest holy love.

“For whoever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world – our faith.” (1 John 5 v 4)

Love is given in all its holy power, hoping for our response.

There still remains an action for us to take.

To make faith seem to be as God intended,

A force of love which is truly life enhancing,

Not only do we need to focus on the Lord Jesus,

We must call upon the Spirit of holiness,

He who is the Third Person of the Trinity,

God’s power of love, a gentle force and of course,

Very good indeed for us to meet with.

For the Spirit’s primary task, fulfilled when we ask,

Is to establish, strengthen, support and maintain us

Through love’s friendship with the Lord Jesus,

By which we delight and honour our heavenly Father.

What a neat and tidy plan God began!

Our response to love has to be love,

The love we grow to know by the Spirit, through Jesus.

“For in Him we live and move and have our being.” (Acts 17 v 28)

“We love Him because He first loved us.” (1 John 4 v 19)

“And this commandment we have from Him; that (s)he who loves God must love his (her) brother (sister) also.” (1 John 4 v 21)

Please pray.
