Enjoy the show, vivid colours a-glow.

Now it is mid autumn

A most dramatic season.

Sit back, relax and enjoy

All the means the Creator does employ,

To enhance so brightly the colour

That which is so dramatic in nature.

The annual most welcome feature

Of October, the mid month of autumn,

Has to be the countryside glory.

Aglow, every deciduous tree on show,

Amidst bronze carpeted floor cover,

In purple heather and brown bracken.

Nor does the colour lessen nor slacken in the garden.

A month most marvellous, the colour is momentous,

O how splendidly the autumn season passes.

The tired, rather faded summer borders

Are eclipsed by autumn pleasure,

A time to truly treasure.

For the Creator of nature

Will never measure out His love sparsely,

His work being unstinting.

Just look at the colours hinting,

Surely silently issuing an invitation

To be praying with plenty of praising.

Misty mornings, chilly evenings, but in between

Some welcome warmth in the air.

Then, as the low sun has begun its autumn task

Of softly shining, the hues we joyously peruse

Are glinting and glowing, the warmest colours showing,

Highlighting the garden whilst inviting us

To stop, be still, drink in the thrill and take stock!

It is timely to plan to unlock the future.

Time to be bulb planting, preparing even now for spring,

Another season to bring us sheer delight to excite.

The work in the garden never ever finishes.

There is always something well worth praising.

But perhaps the one season with colours warmly aglow,

Complimenting and harmonising whilst offering variety,

Is the autumn with its perfect garden palette,

Including each and every warmer colour in abundance.

Yellow, orange, peach, pink, red and magenta,

Amidst brown, tan, taupe, russet and amber,

All softly aglow in the low autumn sun.

Wherever you are, countryside or garden,

The shades shine afar for they are sumptuous.

How gracious is God’s love for us, bold, bright and beautiful!

Surely it is dutiful for us to respond prayerfully,

Gratefully offering our thanks as we enjoy the show,

Vivid colours aglow with no other seasonal competitor.

The Creator works vividly with many a speciality,

Of which one surrounds us now, autumn at its height of glory.

Lord, what a truly beautiful season and time in October. We are surrounded by Your glory everywhere!
