GROW IN HOLINESS

Sue O’Donnell. 17.08.20

“Lord, enlighten my understanding, strengthen my will, purify my heart and make me holy.” (“The Universal Prayer” Pope Clement XI)

Grow in holiness through:

The graces of the Eucharist;

Your friendship with the Lord Jesus;

Your openness to the Holy Spirit;

Acceptance of God’s every promise fulfilled;

The true story of sacred Scripture;

Continuous prayer of praise and adoration;

Frequent prayer of remorse and repentance;

Ongoing prayer seeking help and guidance in everything.

“This is what the Holy Scripture calls pouring out his heart like water in the divine presence, manifesting not only what is of importance, but the least thing.” (St Jane Frances de Chantal died 1641 “Where Two or Three Meet in Prayer” Meditation “MAGNIFICAT” 12.08.20)

Grow in holiness through:

A willingness to heed the Spirit;

An endeavour to stay as close as possible to Christ Jesus;

Partaking of the holy sacraments;

Always putting the needs of others before our own;

Sacrifices made willingly;

Love offered generously;

Forgiveness given as the Lord God forgives us;

Being gratefully expressive of God’s goodness;

Stepping out, firm in faith’s expectant hope, shared in prayer.

“Seeing that divine providence governs all and we can do nothing without its aid, it is wise to confer with God...” (Meditation continued)

Grow in holiness through:

Graciously acknowledging God as an all loving Trinity;

Being readily guarded and guided by the Spirit;

Seeking the Spirit of conviction and correction;

Always acting and re-acting as Jesus could and would;

Being filled to overflowing with the life and love of Jesus;

Appreciation, admiration and adoration of God;

Helping each other compassionately;

Clarity as to what is right or wrong, without compromise;

Asking the Lord Jesus to heal our hurts.

“Opening our heart, pouring it all out to Him without reserve, recounting its burdens, its sins, its aspirations. Revealing our whole self, seeking repose in His company as with a friend on whom one relies and to whom one makes known the good and the bad.” (Meditation continued)

Grow in holiness through:

Not becoming distracted nor diverted by the world, the flesh and the devil;

Pursuing humility, honesty, decency, integrity;

Never becoming weary whilst doing good;

Drawing life from the Saviour Teacher, He who is Master over us;

Living in the wisdom and truth the Spirit reveals to us;

Learning not to count the cost;

Showing a proper respect for all peoples;

Doing what the Lord Jesus asks of us in the way He asks;

Avidly seeking to become a pilgrim.

“Keep me, Lord, attentive at prayer... diligent in my work, firm in my intentions. Let my conscience be clear, my conduct without fault, my speech blameless, my life well ordered.” (“The Universal Prayer” continued)

“Put me on my guard against my human weaknesses. Let me cherish Your love for me, keep Your law, and come at last to Your salvation.” (The Universal Prayer)

“The work of righteousness will be peace, and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance forever.” (Isaiah 32 v 17) Please pray.
