GOD’S COMPANY

Sue O’Donnell. 31.08.20

You can choose anywhere

To share time with God.

Out and about,

Inside at home,

Or whilst farthest away if you roam,

As long as You can find

A place with sufficient space,

To sit silently, reflectively,

This will do.

Who knows what blessings will ensue?

We all have to try this and see

What life is like

When in God’s company.

One thing certainly is the case,

He will each of us

Most lovingly embrace, if invited to.

That invitation is really the only necessity.

The Lord God, ever gracious,

And desirous of truly blessing us,

Waits to be asked,

So an invitation is the recommendation.

Make time today to sit and pray,

Inviting the Lord God in,

To begin the conversation with you.

This may happen surprisingly quickly,

Or maybe only slowly.

If so, simply wait.

For having opened up an opportunity,

Something good will certainly happen.

Do you realise that prayer can be

Merely being with the Lord God silently,

Nothing said, nothing heard, nor received,

Nothing at all perceived,

Except for the pleasure

We must all learn to treasure,

Of God’s company given in friendship.

Yes, even through silence

It is possible to worship.

Lord, thank You that prayer opens up so many possibilities for us. May we ever enjoy sitting silently in Your company, even if nothing is said. Amen.
